A medieval illuminated manuscript leaf on vellum. Likely cut from a Book of Hours, the leaf displays handwritten Latin and floral illuminated decoration , embellished with gold leaf .

These manuscripts were commissioned by royalty and gentry class, as religious study texts. Often produced within monasteries by the monks within. They often survive due to the resilience of the vellum they are written on.
